Mutton Kosha ( Kosha Mangsho/Mutton Kosha) is an iconic Bengali curry recipe where goat meat is braised with Onions, Green chillies paste, Tomatoes, Spices, Yogurt and Mustard Oil on low heat. I love having this during Durga Puja with Puris/Basanti Pulao.

Mangsho means meat, and the word Kosha comes from Koshnao, which means cooking on slow heat with spices.

Mangsa Kasha is said to be the predecessor of Kosha Mangsho  introduced by the Odia cooks who moved to West Bengal during the British rule to work in the kitchens of Bengali families. Kosha Mangsho is the Bengali version of mutton curry.

Notes

Choose Mutton with bones and with fat pieces for best results. Use Curry cut.
Marinate overnight for better flavor and also the meat gets cooked faster if marinated for a long time.
